The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has once again reaffirmed its commitment to the development of golf in Uganda by increasing its sponsorship for the Uganda Seniors Golf Championship to Shs 20 million.
This marks the 9th consecutive year that UCAA has supported the tournament, which is currently underway at the prestigious Entebbe Club.
The increased sponsorship will contribute to the prize fund, particularly for the newly introduced professional category, which has added a new dimension to the event.
The tournament, which runs from December 3rd to 8th, will see top amateur and professional golfers battle it out for glory.
Olive Birungi Lumonya, UCAA’s Deputy Director General, highlighted the significance of the sponsorship, stating, “UCAA is proud to support this prestigious event, which aligns with our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Golf is a sport enjoyed by many, including frequent users of our facilities at Entebbe International Airport.”
Charles Katarikawe, Chairman of the Uganda Seniors Golfing Society, expressed gratitude for UCAA’s continued support.
“We are honored to have UCAA as our partner. Their generous sponsorship has enabled us to elevate the tournament and attract top-level golfers,” he said.
The tournament has already seen some impressive performances, with former national amateur champion Ronald Otile leading the professional category after the first round.
The second round is scheduled for Wednesday, December 4th, and will determine the final contenders for the championship.
