Arsenal fans in Jinja City erupted in celebration after their team’s 2-0 victory over Manchester United in a Premier League match last night.

In a football-loving nation like Uganda, clashes between these two teams often lead to post-match incidents. Unlike last season, when similar celebrations resulted in police interventions and arrests, this time the procession passed near the Central Police Station peacefully.

Police officers observed the celebrations without interference, though Kiira Region Police spokesperson James Mubi reminded the public to seek prior approval from the Inspector General of Police before organizing any processions.

“We urge fans to refrain from holding unauthorized processions to maintain public safety and order,” Mubi advised.

Arsenal’s win offered a crucial boost after a difficult October and early November. The team’s recent three-game winning streak has lifted them to third place in the Premier League table with 28 points, seven behind league leaders Liverpool.

Sports analysts believe the victory has revitalized Arsenal’s chances of being serious title contenders. Fans in Jinja echoed this sentiment, expressing renewed confidence in their team’s potential for success this season.

In Lukaya town, Kalungu District, however, celebrations turned tragic when an Arsenal fan was fatally shot by a security guard over loud celebrations late at night.

Meanwhile, in Jinja City, jubilant supporters organized street processions that brought parts of the city to a standstill, with motorcycles decked out in Arsenal colors taking over the streets.

The festivities began early at Stabex Bugembe, where fans refueled their motorcycles, courtesy of Felix Bagiire, also known as Arsenal Ambassador Sham Love, one of those arrested in last year’s celebrations.

The excitement among fans was unmistakable, driven by optimism over Arsenal’s Premier League title chances this season.
