Uganda concluded their campaign at the 2024 CAHB African Women’s Handball Championship with a 34-25 victory over Kenya in the 11th-place playoff match.
The tournament, held in Kinshasa, DR Congo, marked Uganda’s return to the continental stage, though they faced significant challenges during the group stages.
Competing in Group B, Uganda struggled against some of the strongest teams in African handball, including eventual champions Angola.
They suffered heavy defeats, including a 46-11 loss to Angola and a loss to Tunisia, as they failed to secure any points in the group phase.
Despite the tough group stage, Uganda displayed resilience in the playoff match against regional rivals Kenya.
The team delivered their best performance of the tournament, with standout contributions from both their attack and defense.
Uganda’s fast-paced play and improved accuracy in shooting saw them dominate the match, securing a well-earned victory to claim 11th place overall.
Kenya, on the other hand, finished 12th in their return to the tournament. Both East African nations will look to use this experience to strengthen their squads for future continental competitions.
The 2024 CAHB African Women’s Handball Championship saw Angola dominate the competition to clinch their 16th title, while Senegal, Tunisia, and Egypt rounded out the top four and secured spots at the 2025 IHF Women’s World Championship.
