Uganda Cranes and Kitara forward Denis Omedi fell short in the race for the 2024 CAF Goal of the Year, finishing sixth with 13,766 votes.
The award, decided by 70% fan votes and 30% input from CAF technical experts, was won by Angola’s Cristovao Mabululu for his spectacular long-range goal against Namibia during the TotalEnergies AFCON 2023.
Omedi’s stunning goal, which leveled the score during the quarterfinals of the FUFA Super 8 in August, has been hailed as one of the most audacious in Ugandan football history.
His CAF Goal of the Year nomination was another milestone in a stellar year for the 24-year-old. The rabona strike also earned him a nomination for the prestigious FIFA Puskás Award, which honors the best goal scored worldwide.
Fans can now turn their focus to the FIFA Puskás Award, where Omedi’s rabona remains a strong contender.
