Villa’s Away Struggles Persist Despite Vital Point Against KCCA

Villa earned a hard-fought point in a 1-1 draw against rivals KCCA in the Uganda Premier League (UPL) Kampala Derby at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Friday.

Patrick Kakande’s equalizer canceled out Sadat Anaku’s strike as the two sides shared the spoils on matchday 13.

A Tale of Two Teams

While the result carries significant bragging rights in the Kampala Derby, it highlights contrasting fortunes for the two clubs.

For SC Villa, it was only their second point away from home this season.

The Jogoos have struggled on the road, previously managing just a 1-1 draw with Maroons on matchday six at Luzira Prisons Grounds.

Villa’s away record is the poorest in the league, tying with newcomers Mbale Heroes, with just two points from six games.

They remain seventh on the UPL table with 17 points after 13 games.

Their next challenge is hosting URA at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, on January 4, followed by a tricky away fixture against Kitara at the Royals Park in Butema, Hoima on January 9.

KCCA’s Title Chase Stalls

For KCCA, the draw extends a worrying trend, with just one win in their last six games.

Their controversial 2-1 victory over Wakiso Giants last week, decided by Emmanuel Anyama’s disputed goal, is their only recent triumph.

The Kasasiro Boys, who led the league earlier in the season, now sit third on the table with 23 points, trailing leaders Vipers by five points and second-placed NEC by four.

Abdallah Mubiru’s charges will look to bounce back in their next fixture against Police at Kavumba Recreation Center on January 2.

What Lies Ahead

As the UPL season intensifies, both Villa and KCCA have work to do to achieve their respective goals.

Villa must improve their dismal away record to stay competitive, while KCCA needs consistency to reignite their title challenge.
