Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that veteran defender Kyle Walker is seeking a move abroad, with a January transfer now on the cards.
The news came as a surprise, particularly after City’s resounding 8-0 victory over Salford City in the FA Cup.
Guardiola, while maintaining a professional demeanor, revealed a hint of “inner anguish” during the press conference.
“Kyle asked to explore the options to play abroad,” Guardiola stated. “He went to Txiki Begiristain, he didn’t speak to me. Maybe I died,” he added with a wry smile.
Body language expert Judi James analyzed Guardiola’s demeanor during the press conference.
“There is a micro-sneer with his nostril and a loud sniff and he tuts, throwing his eyes to the side for a long pause for consideration,” James observed. “This suggests he is less than happy with Walker’s decision.”
Walker, 34, has been a key figure in City’s success in recent years.
However, he has expressed a desire to experience a new challenge abroad, having previously seen a move to Bayern Munich blocked.
City are expected to grant Walker his wish, recognizing his significant contributions to the club.
