Onduparaka FC to Host Rashid Agau Memorial Match Celebrating His Legacy and Impact

Preparations are underway for the AGAU Rashid Memorial Football Match, scheduled for this Saturday at the Abba Bet Green Light Stadium in Arua.

The event will feature a clash between West Nile Province and Acholi Province to honor the legacy of Rashid Agau, a talented footballer from Arua who passed away in August 2024.

Known affectionately as T9, Agau played for several top Ugandan clubs, including Onduparaka FC, Arua Hill SC, and Maroons SC. He passed away at the Arua Regional Referral Hospital following a brief illness.

Beyond his skills on the pitch, Agau was celebrated for his dedication to community development. He supported grassroots football initiatives, mentored young talent in West Nile, and generously contributed to local programs, families in need, and sports development. His humility and commitment left a lasting impact on his community.

To honor his memory, the West Nile Players Association, the West Nile Region Football Association, and Onduparaka Football Club have organized this memorial match. The event aims to raise funds to support Agau’s family and complete projects he started, such as building a house.

Hussein Ezzy, the event coordinator, confirmed that preparations are in their final stages. “The host team is ready to welcome Acholi Province. Everything is progressing smoothly, and the ground team is doing an excellent job,” he said. Ezzy called on well-wishers and football stakeholders to contribute to the fundraising efforts, which aim to raise UGX 35,644,000 to support Agau’s projects and family.

Contributions, whether financial, material, or skill-based, can be directed to the chief mobilizer, Oshino Rashid, via 0774501661.

Biography of Rashid Agau
Born on August 21, 1990, in Obolokofuku Central, Tanganyika Ward, Arua Central Division, Agau was the son of Ayub Brahan Ayila and the late Afsah Chandiru. He is survived by two children: Hashim Ayub, born in 2016, and Mo Sallah Rashid Ayub, born in 2018.

Agau’s education journey began at Najah Muslim Primary School and included Arua Public and Swalihin Primary Schools. He later attended Najjah Muslim Secondary School, St. Joseph’s College Ombachi, and Old Kampala for O-Level and St. Mary’s Kitende for A-Level.

Agau’s football career began at a young age, with participation in international youth tournaments such as the Gothia Cup in Sweden and the Trivoli Cup in Denmark. Domestically, he played for Elgonia FC, Onduparaka FC, Arwam Roses, and Arua Central FC, among others.
