Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Muhammed expressed his pride and commitment to delivering a successful CHAN 2024 tournament during his remarks at the draw held in Nairobi on Wednesday 15th January.
“It is an honor to have hosted the CHAN 2024 draw here in Nairobi,” stated President Muhammed. “This is a proud moment for African football, and co-hosting this prestigious tournament with our brothers in Tanzania and Uganda demonstrates our shared commitment to the development and growth of the game on the continent.”
The decision to shift the tournament to August was highlighted by President Muhammed as a crucial step.
“This adjustment provides us with valuable time to enhance our infrastructure and ensure that CHAN 2024 leaves a lasting legacy for Kenyan football and the entire region,” he explained.
President Muhammed extended his gratitude to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), FIFA, and the governments of Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania for their trust and unwavering support in making this tournament a reality.
“The journey begins now,” he emphasized. “We must work together – the government, the football federations, and all stakeholders – to deliver an unforgettable tournament that will be remembered for years to come.”
Kenya Faces “Group of Death” in CHAN Debut
Kenya, making their debut appearance in the CHAN, have been drawn into a challenging Group A alongside some of the continent’s most successful footballing nations.
This “Group of Death” features Morocco, two-time champions (2018 & 2020), DR Congo, also two-time champions (2009 & 2016), Angola, with a fifth tournament appearance and a best finish of fourth place in 2011, and Zambia, who have reached the tournament five times and secured a bronze medal in 2009.
