Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, has expressed confidence in Alejandro Garnacho’s potential to thrive at Old Trafford, despite recent speculation linking the young winger with a move to Napoli.
Garnacho, 20, has shown flashes of brilliance this season, contributing eight goals in 30 appearances across all competitions.
However, his recent omission from the squad for the Manchester derby and persistent rumors of a potential sale have fueled speculation about his future at the club.
Speaking to the media ahead of United’s Premier League clash with Southampton, Amorim acknowledged the challenges Garnacho faces in adapting to the team’s tactical approach.
“He needs to learn to play in a different position,” Amorim said. “He needs to play better inside. He improves a lot recovering his position when he doesn’t have the ball.”
Despite these challenges, Amorim remains convinced of Garnacho’s long-term prospects.
“That is clear. He has talent,” the manager emphasized. “He’s finding the best way to play in this system. He’s improving during training. He started the last game. Let’s see (against Southampton).”
Garnacho’s recent inclusion in the starting lineup for the FA Cup tie against Arsenal provided a glimmer of hope for the young winger.
United ultimately emerged victorious in a penalty shootout, boosting confidence within the squad following a run of disappointing results.
Amorim highlighted the importance of a more aggressive and determined approach from his players.
“We want to be a team that is hard to play,” he stated. “It’s like I had this feeling, especially at home in the last games, that we were easy to play. And we have to be honest with that.”
The manager singled out Harry Maguire as an example of the improved mentality within the squad.
Maguire, who recently extended his contract with the club, played a crucial role in the victory over Arsenal despite battling illness.
“I think he’s changed the way he sees himself,” Amorim said of Maguire. “I believe a lot in Harry. You can see the way he plays now is different because he believes a lot in himself.”
United will be looking to build on their recent positive performances as they face Southampton at Old Trafford.
