Arsenal are reportedly prepared to shatter their transfer record to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres this month, as manager Mikel Arteta seeks to bolster his attacking options following a spate of injuries.
With key players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus sidelined for significant periods, Arteta acknowledged the need for reinforcements.
“We are actively looking,” he confirmed after Arsenal’s recent North London derby victory, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
According to French publication L’Equipe, the Gunners are now willing to meet Gyokeres’ €100 million (£83 million) release clause.
The 26-year-old Swede has been a sensation this season, netting an impressive 32 goals in just 30 matches across all competitions.
While Arsenal are also interested in other targets like Alexander Isak and Jonathan David, their respective clubs, Newcastle United and Lille, are reluctant to sell in the January transfer window.
Gyokeres, however, presents a more attainable option due to his readily available release clause.
The prolific striker has attracted interest from several top European clubs, including Manchester United and Bayern Munich.
In an interview with Spanish outlet Marca last month, Gyokeres expressed his ambition to play for “one of the best teams in Europe.”
