Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has provided an injury update ahead of their crucial Premier League clash with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
While Diego Carlos remains sidelined, captain John McGinn is nearing a return to action after recovering from a hamstring injury.
“Pau Torres is still out and John McGinn is starting to train on the field, but not available for tomorrow,” Emery confirmed in his pre-match press conference.
“Barkley is still out. Diego Carlos, this morning he had a medical report and he is not feeling good. I think he is not going to be there again.”
The match presents a significant opportunity for Villa to close the gap to second-placed Arsenal to just five points.
However, their recent record at the Emirates Stadium is not encouraging, having lost their last two visits to the capital by an aggregate score of 7-1.
Emery, however, will be buoyed by his side’s recent form, having won their last three games across all competitions, including a vital away victory against Everton.
Since their 2-0 defeat to Villa in April, Arsenal have been virtually invincible at home, remaining unbeaten in their last 13 Premier League games.
This impressive run mirrors their dominance under Emery during the 2018/19 season when they enjoyed a lengthy unbeaten streak at the Emirates.
