Record champions Gomba are gearing up for the 2025 Buganda Masaza Cup tournament with renewed determination after a disappointing performance in the 2024 edition.
The county on Wednesday 15th January officially announced their committee for the 2025 season, signaling an early start to preparations for the prestigious competition.
Gomba, with a storied history in the Masaza Cup, having clinched the title five times (2004, 2009, 2014, 2017, and 2020), is aiming to recapture its former glory.
However, the team’s 14th-place finish last year, failing to even reach the quarterfinals, served as a wake-up call.
The committee, led by Chairperson Andrew Musassizi, includes Anita Nantale as First Assistant Chairperson, Swaibu Luzinda as Second Assistant Chairperson, Livingston Kasule as Treasurer, Derrick Nsubuga Luliibe as Secretary, and Resty Mbatidde Namugema as Media Officer. Emmanuel Steven Yamulemye will oversee safety and security, Jafarani Kalule will serve as Team Manager, and Hassan Ssendi will be the team doctor.
The 2025 Masaza Cup is tentatively scheduled to commence on Saturday, July 5th, and conclude on November 1st.
Buddu are the reigning champions, having defeated Kyaggwe 1-0 in the previous final at Mandela National Stadium, thanks to Michael Walaga’s decisive header.
Gomba will be looking to reclaim their place among the top contenders and add another chapter to their illustrious history in the Buganda Masaza Cup.
