While scoring is not typically expected of defenders, Uganda Cranes’ towering centre-back Bevis Mugabi has shown a knack for finding the back of the net throughout his career.
Having previously netted seven times in the Scottish Premiership with Motherwell, Mugabi made a switch to Cypriot side Anorthosis Famagusta, where his scoring instincts are already shining.
His first goal for Anorthosis came in the Cyprus Cup, and now, he has opened his account in the Cyprus League.
On Saturday, the 29-year-old was on the scoresheet in Anorthosis’ emphatic 4-0 win over Nea Salamis.
Mugabi’s well-taken goal was the second of the match, helping his team climb to 30 points after 19 games, currently sitting in 7th place in the 14-team league.
Mugabi ended 2024 by scoring his first international goal for the Uganda Cranes in a vital 1-0 win over South Sudan during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Next up for Mugabi and Anorthosis is a challenging fixture at home against third-placed AEK Larnaca on Friday, January 25.
Mugabi will look to continue making an impact at both ends of the pitch.
