Uganda’s national football team, the Cranes, are set to learn their opponents in the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 during the highly anticipated final draw on January 27, 2025, in Rabat.
The draw will commence at 9:00 PM East African Time, marking a critical step in preparations for Africa’s premier football tournament.
This will be Uganda’s eighth appearance at the AFCON finals, with their best performance coming in 1978 when they finished as runners-up.
The Cranes, buoyed by their recent qualifying campaign, are eager to make a significant impact on the continental stage this year.
The draw will divide the 24 qualified teams into six groups of four, with the top two teams and four best third-placed sides advancing to the knockout stages.
The tournament, to be hosted in Morocco for the first time since 1988, promises state-of-the-art match venues, training facilities, and accommodation.
The Cranes will face stiff competition from heavyweights such as defending champions Côte d’Ivoire, record seven-time winners Egypt, and reigning African champions Senegal.
Also competing is fellow East African nation Tanzania, adding a regional flavor to the prestigious event.
This edition marks the 35th AFCON since its inception in 1957, solidifying its status as one of the oldest continental competitions in world football.
