Borussia Dortmund have parted ways with head coach Nuri Sahin following a disappointing start to the season.
The decision comes after Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat against Bologna in the UEFA Champions League, marking the club’s fourth consecutive loss across all competitions.
Sahin, who was promoted to the head coach role this summer after Edin Terzic’s departure, oversaw a significant drop in form.
The club currently sits 10th in the Bundesliga, a staggering 20 points behind league leaders Bayern Munich.
“We have unfortunately lost faith that we will achieve our sporting goals,” said sporting CEO Lars Ricken in a statement. “This decision hurts, but it was unavoidable after the game in Bologna.”
This marks another turbulent period for Dortmund managers in recent years.
Since Jurgen Klopp’s departure in 2015, the club has seen eight different head coaches, with only Lucien Favre lasting more than two years.
Dortmund will face Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga this weekend, and the club has stated that they will announce a successor in due course.
Speculation has already begun, with names like Erik ten Hag and Roger Schmidt mentioned in German media.
