Hoima Stadium Hits Key Milestone: Concrete Works to Finish by April 2025

The construction of Uganda’s second national stadium in Hoima City is making remarkable strides, with contractors SUMMA announcing that all concrete works will be completed by April 2025.

This update was revealed during the fifth site meeting held on Wednesday January 22, which brought together key stakeholders for a project tour and strategic discussions.

The Turkish firm, tasked with delivering the $129 million multi-sports complex in just 18 months, assured stakeholders that concrete works would wrap up within the next three months.

Steel installations and other critical components will follow swiftly, keeping the ambitious timeline on track.

The stadium is designed to be a state-of-the-art facility, featuring a 20,000-seater main arena, a 2,000-seater indoor sports center, a training pitch, a semi-Olympic-sized swimming pool, a parking area for over 1,000 vehicles, and outdoor courts for basketball, volleyball, and netball.

Among those present at the site meeting were officials from the National Council of Sports (NCS), including Assistant General Secretary Joseph Oluga and Engineering Officer Nicholas Zirimenya.

Representatives from the Ministry of Works and Transport, State House, the Office of the First Lady, and the Ministry of Education and Sports’ Construction Management Unit also participated.

Local leaders, including the Resident City Commissioner, the LCV Chairman, and the Town Clerk of Hoima City, joined the tour.

Additionally, Hon. Jennifer Namuyangu Kacha, the Minister of State for Bunyoro Affairs, graced the inspection as part of her routine oversight of government projects in the Bunyoro Kingdom.

The pace of progress has been lauded by stakeholders during each site visit.

The stadium has been earmarked as Uganda’s second stadium to be used during the 2027 AFCON which Uganda will co-host alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
