SC Villa eased past Buganda Regional League side Seeta United with a dominant 3-0 victory in the Round of 64 of the 51st Stanbic Uganda Cup.
The clash, played earlier today at the Seeta Church of Uganda grounds, saw the reigning Uganda Premier League champions showcase their class.
From the word go, the Jogoos wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Aslam Ssemakula firing them into the lead in the third minute.
They then piled relentless pressure Seeta United, but the hosts held firm, ensuring the first half ended with a slender 1-0 advantage for the visitors.
However, Villa were at it again in the second half. Nine minutes after the restart, Patrick Jonah Kakande doubled the Jogoos’ lead from the penalty spot after Hassan Mubiru was fouled following a surging run into the box.
Then six minutes later, Arnold Odongo’s powerful header from a Mubiru corner sealed the game.
The victory propels SC Villa into the Round of 32, where they join an array of teams that include current cup holders Kitara, runners-up NEC, and other Uganda Premier League sides such as three-time champions Vipers.
Notable qualifiers from outside the top tier include Simba, Blacks Power, Bushenyi Veterans, and Pakwach Young Stars.
The Stanbic Uganda Cup action continues tomorrow with KCCA visiting non-league side 403 Brigade at St. Daniel Comboni Secondary School in Napak.
The ultimate winner of the tournament will earn the coveted opportunity to represent Uganda in the CAF Confederation Cup, raising the stakes for every competing side.
