In a move to bolster their attacking options for the final push of the season, Lugazi Football Club have announced the signing of striker Shafiq Avemah from Police.
The goal scorer has signed a one-year contract with the club.
Avemah expressed his excitement about joining the team, citing Lugazi’s style of play as a major factor in his decision.
“Lugazi’s style of play inspired me to come here, and I am sure I can do the best with the team’s good build-up play,” he remarked.
The striker acknowledged the pressure that comes with being expected to deliver goals but assured fans that he thrives under such circumstances.
“I know this comes with pressure because the team will need goals from me, but I am that kind of a player who likes pressure,” Avemah said. “Even a diamond is made out of pressure. Pressure actually pushes me to put up a difference. So, I don’t have any problem with pressure – I just love it.”
Avemah started his journey with Teresa FC in 2017. He quickly rose through the ranks, emerging as the top scorer in the Kampala regional league in 2018.
Following his success on the field, Avemah took a brief detour into futsal, becoming the top scorer with a staggering 46 goals for Yeak Kabowa in the 2018/19 Futsal Super League.
This impressive performance caught the eye of Uganda Premier League side Express FC, who signed Avemah for the following season.
After a stint with Express FC, he moved to Elman SC in Somalia before returning to Uganda in 2023 to play for Police FC. There, he continued his goal-scoring form, netting seven goals in just 14 games.
Lugazi FC is confident that Avemah’s clinical finishing and well-rounded attacking abilities will be a valuable asset for the team in the final leg of the season.
The club expressed their delight in welcoming Avemah, stating, “We are glad to have you, Avemah!”
