Kigundu: CAVB Zone 5 Championship a Game Changer for Ugandan Volleyball

Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) 1st Vice President, Kigundu Ahmed, has highlighted the upcoming CAVB Zone 5 Clubs Championship as a major opportunity for Ugandan volleyball players to showcase their talent at the continental level.

The tournament, set to take place from February 26 to March 4, 2025, will be hosted at the Lugogo Indoor Arena in Kampala.

Uganda will be represented by four men’s teams—Nemostars, Sport-S, KAVC, and UCU Doves—and five women’s teams—KCB Nkumba, KCCA, Sport-S, Ndejje Elites, and VVC, which was recently added to the lineup.

With top teams from across the region expected to compete, Kigundu believes this is a crucial moment for Ugandan volleyball.

“We are hosting countries along the Nile who will bring their best-performing volleyball teams,” Kigundu stated. “This is a chance for our players to face some of the continent’s best but also for them to showcase their talent.”

He further emphasized the impact of the tournament on players’ careers, noting that it has historically been a launchpad for many Ugandan athletes.

“This tournament has always been a game changer for our players. What happens is that after the tournament, many clubs become active and players get moves abroad,” he said.

With Uganda hosting the competition, Kigundu is confident that local clubs will rise to the occasion.

He believes the home advantage should give Ugandan teams the extra push needed to make a strong statement against regional giants.

The tournament will provide a platform for players to prove themselves on a bigger stage, with scouts and clubs keeping a close eye on standout performances.
