Bayern Munich has announced the contract extension of star left-back Alphonso Davies.
The 24-year-old Canadian international has signed a new five-year deal, committing his future to the Bavarian giants until 2030.
This news comes as a major blow to Real Madrid, who were heavily linked with acquiring Davies, and also thwarts any potential interest from other clubs, including Manchester United.
Davies’ journey with Bayern began at the age of 18 when he joined from Vancouver Whitecaps. Since then, he has blossomed into one of the most dynamic and sought-after full-backs globally.
His trophy cabinet at Bayern boasts an impressive 13 titles, including five Bundesliga championships and a Champions League triumph.
The contract extension puts an end to months of speculation regarding Davies’ future. With his previous contract expiring in the summer, rumors of a potential free transfer to Real Madrid had intensified, with some reports even suggesting a pre-agreement was in place.
However, Davies has chosen to remain in Munich, solidifying his place as a key figure in Bayern’s present and future.
“I am very happy to have extended my contract at this great club,” Davies stated after the announcement. “I came to FC Bayern when I was 18 and just wanted to learn as much as possible every day to become one of the best in my position. Now I’m looking forward to another five years together. I’ve already achieved a lot here, but there’s more to come.”
Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, emphasized the significance of the extension, stating, “Alphonso Davies has become one of the best players in the world in his position at Bayern and has attracted a lot of interest. The fact he wants to continue here with us shows Bayern’s status in international football and that Alphonso has found his sporting home in Munich.”
Davies’ impact on the pitch is undeniable. His blistering pace, attacking prowess, and defensive solidity have made him a vital asset for both club and country.
He has amassed 220 appearances for Bayern, scoring 12 goals and providing 34 assists. For Canada, he has earned 56 caps, scoring 15 goals.
