Uganda Women’s Senior National Team head coach Sheryl Botes has summoned a 39-player squad ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) first-round qualifiers against Ethiopia.
The Crested Cranes will host the first leg on February 21 in Kampala before traveling to Addis Ababa for the return fixture on February 26.
The squad features a mix of experienced players and rising stars, including five U17 players—Martha Babirye, Doreen Aujat, Shadia Nabirye, Agnes Nabukenya, and Rinah Ariho—whom Botes believes will benefit from senior team exposure before returning to the Teen Cranes camp for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Kenya.
The Crested Cranes are aiming for their third appearance at the WAFCON finals, having last featured in 2022 when they exited in the group stage.
Uganda narrowly missed out on the 2024 edition after a 3-2 aggregate loss to Algeria in the qualifiers.
The team is set to begin camp on February 9 at Cranes Paradise Hotel, Kisaasi, with training sessions scheduled at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
The squad includes key foreign-based players such as goalkeeper Ruth Aturo (Ukerewe Queens, Tanzania), midfielder Nabirye Joan (Trabzonspor, Turkey), and forwards Fazila Ikwaput (Gokulam Kerala, India) and Resty Nanziri (East Bengal, India).
The local contingent features several players from FUFA Women Super League clubs, including Kampala Queens, Kawempe Muslim, Uganda Martyrs Lubaga, and Lady Doves.
