Bernard Ogwel Inspects Hoima Stadium Works

The National Council of Sports (NCS) Secretary General, Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel, has inspected the ongoing construction of Hoima City Stadium, where a round-the-clock workforce is turning the ambitious project into reality ahead of schedule.

Accompanied by NCS Board Member Moses Omara Anyii and other officials, Dr. Ogwel started his oversight tour in Lira at the Akii Bua stadium on Wednesday morning before traveling to Bunyoro where they toured the Hoima stadium site and received updates from Turkish contractors SUMMA, who are spearheading the $129.7 million project.

Set to be Uganda’s second national stadium, Hoima City Stadium is designed to be a glowing, multi-colored masterpiece, something that the National Council of Sports have said will look much like Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena.

Once complete, it will illuminate the Bunyoro skyline in the black, yellow, and red of the national flag something that will be a striking sight for locals, travelers along the Masindi-Hoima Highway.

The NCS delegation witnessed significant progress, with the main stadium, auxiliary football field, and mini indoor arena already taking shape.

Plans for a semi-Olympic swimming pool, outdoor courts, and parking areas are also well underway.

More than 1,000 workers—including 180 expatriates, 140 regional specialists, and nearly 700 Ugandans—are operating in shifts to ensure timely completion.

Impressed by the scale and speed of construction, the NCS officials commended SUMMA for their commitment, acknowledging the project as a game-changer for Uganda’s sports infrastructure.
