KCCA Notifies FUFA of Intent to Take Gavin Kizito Case to CAS

KCCA Football Club has officially informed the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) of its intention to escalate the Gavin Kizito eligibility case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), NBS Sport has confirmed.

The development follows the FUFA Appeals Committee’s decision to uphold the disciplinary panel’s ruling that KCCA forfeited their January 7 match against Mbarara City for fielding an ineligible player.

The ruling cost the club three crucial points, sparking outrage from KCCA’s leadership, including CEO Anisha Muhoozi, who slammed the decision as “absurd.”

With the club now taking steps to contest the ruling on an international stage, the move could set a precedent for Ugandan football.

CAS, based in Lausanne, Switzerland, serves as the highest legal authority for resolving sports-related disputes. While its decisions are typically final, cases must meet specific criteria to be admissible.

KCCA has yet to release an official statement confirming their next legal steps beyond notifying FUFA.

However, should they formally file the appeal, the club will be seeking to overturn FUFA’s ruling and reclaim the three lost points, which would improve their standing in the Uganda Premier League title race.

The case will now likely hinge on whether KCCA can prove that their reliance on Uganda Premier League (UPL) confirmation of Kizito’s eligibility was valid and that FUFA’s disciplinary process was flawed.

If the case proceeds, it will be a rare instance of a Ugandan club challenging a domestic football decision at CAS, potentially influencing how similar disputes are handled in the future.
