KCCA FC fans have expressed their frustration with head coach Abdallah Mubiru following their 2-0 loss to fierce rivals Vipers SC at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Sunday.
The result extended KCCA’s winless streak to five games and left them languishing in seventh place on the Uganda Premier League table with 24 points, a massive 16 behind leaders Vipers.
The defeat was KCCA’s second consecutive loss, having fallen to NEC—another side that shares their home ground—just three days earlier.
Frustrated fans who spoke to NBS Sport after the game placed the blame squarely on Mubiru, questioning his tactical decisions and substitutions.
One fan specifically criticized the coach for withdrawing experienced defender Joel Sserunjogi in favour of youngster Brian Jjara in such a high-stakes match.
“Our coach made mistakes that gifted Vipers the win. He made a bad substitution, taking off Sserunjogi for a young player in such a big game,” he said.
KCCA began the season strongly, winning five of their first seven matches and emerging as early favorites for their 14th league title.
However, their form has since declined, with just one win in their last 10 games. Fans attribute this decline to Mubiru’s decision-making and lack of a clear tactical identity.
“The coach has been making wrong decisions. We no longer have an identity as a club, and we as fans don’t even know the system the team plays,” another supporter lamented.
Mubiru, who took charge of KCCA in November 2023, has yet to deliver silverware, a fact that does not sit well with the club’s demanding supporters.
“Abdallah Mubiru is an average coach. There’s nothing he has ever won for the club, and there’s nothing he’s going to win,” one fan stated bluntly.
Another supporter echoed the sentiment, questioning Mubiru’s ability to instill a winning mentality in the team.
“Our team lacks direction. Abdallah Mubiru is not a winner. The players don’t have character, and you tell us we should keep him? No way! KCCA are 13-time champions. We can’t be playing like kids. Abdallah Mubiru out!”
Some fans went further, calling for the return of former head coach Mike Mutebi, who led the club to two Uganda Premier League titles.
“Mubiru has failed as a coach. KCCA is a trophy-winning team. If he can’t deliver, management should bring in other coaches like Mike Mutebi,” one supporter suggested.
The match was made even more painful for KCCA fans by the fact that Allan Okello, a player they once considered their own, sealed Vipers’ victory with a 30th-minute goal.
This fueled additional frustration among the fans, who also criticized club management for allowing key players to leave.
“We no longer have star players at the club because management has been letting them go—even to rival clubs,” a fan noted.
“It’s sad that the same players who left are now scoring against us,” another added.
With pressure mounting from the fans, Mubiru’s future at KCCA is under intense scrutiny as the club seeks to salvage what remains of their season.
