Amorim Concedes Moyes ‘Doing a Better Job’ as Everton Clash Looms

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has publicly acknowledged that his predecessor, David Moyes, is currently outperforming him, just days before the two sides clash at Goodison Park.

Amorim’s comments come amidst a challenging period for United, while Moyes has engineered a rapid turnaround at Everton since his return.

With Everton set to host Manchester United in their final match at Goodison Park before moving to their new stadium next season, the spotlight has intensified on both managers.

Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag in November, has struggled to find consistency, managing only four wins against eight defeats in the Premier League.

In stark contrast, Moyes has revitalized Everton, securing four victories in just six games since taking the helm in January.

“Simple thing. David Moyes is doing a better job than me. It’s quite simple,” Amorim stated during a pre-match press conference. “And then small things like winning one game, winning two games, that belief. The pressure is also not the same.”

Amorim attributed Everton’s resurgence to the collective effort of the players and, crucially, to Moyes’ astute management.

“I don’t know but I think we have to give merit to the players of Everton and especially to the coach of Everton and that’s all. We need to do the same,” he emphasized.

The Portuguese manager’s comments come amidst reports of player discontent within the United squad.

However, Amorim dismissed these claims, asserting that he perceives no such negativity in training.

“I don’t feel it in training,” he said. “If you watch our games sometimes you can have that sensation, but I’m not worried about that. If they are not convinced, I don’t feel that. It’s my job to change their minds and I’m quite good on that.”

Amorim also addressed his decision to take the United job mid-season, a move he initially preferred to postpone until the summer.

“I think that is clear, it’s common sense, when you start a season it’s completely different,” he explained.

“You have time to think things, to feel the players, to have pre-season, to change things that you feel are necessary in a team, in a squad. That is clear. That was the choice, so I don’t want to talk like that. I had my reasons to ask for that and I have the most important reasons to accept the job. I knew it will be tough and the risk. I know that but it’s Manchester United and you cannot say no.”

Despite the challenges, Amorim maintained he has no regrets. “We make a decision and then we go all the way. Of course sometimes it’s really frustrating,” he admitted.

The match at Goodison Park holds significant implications for both clubs, with both Amorim and Moyes striving to secure vital points in their respective campaigns.
