In a shocking turn of events, Uganda Premier League side NEC have been dramatically ousted from the Stanbic Uganda Cup at the round of 32, suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of FUFA Big League outfit, Blacks Power.
The upset, which took place at NEC’s home ground, the MTN Omondi Stadium, marks a significant blow to the Premier League team’s aspirations in the domestic cup competition.
The defeat sees NEC who were last year’s Uganda Cup losing finalists join a growing list of top-flight clubs falling victim to lower-league sides in the early stages of the prestigious tournament.
Meanwhile, Blacks Power under the guidance of Bob Obira, advance to the next round, riding high on their impressive victory.
NEC who had enjoyed a strong home record at the MTN Omondi Stadium, entered the match with expectations of a comfortable progression.
However, Tuesday’s encounter proved to be a stark contrast to their usual dominance.
The first half was a tense affair, with both teams battling fiercely for control. Despite several attempts, neither side managed to break the deadlock, resulting in a goalless stalemate at halftime.
The second half brought heightened drama. NEC had a golden opportunity to take the lead early on when they were awarded a penalty. However, Paul Mucureezi, known for his prowess from the spot, squandered the chance, committing a double touch infringement that nullified the effort.
This missed opportunity proved costly as Blacks Power seized the initiative. With renewed vigor, the Big League side launched a series of attacks, ultimately breaching the NEC defense.
Innocent Maduka opened the scoring, followed shortly after by Joshua Omara, sealing a remarkable 2-0 victory for Blacks Power.
The goals, both expertly executed, left NEC goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan with no chance to intervene, effectively silencing the home crowd and sending shockwaves through the stadium.
This defeat marks a significant setback for NEC who had reached the finals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup last year with Kitara.
For Blacks Power FC, this victory is a testament to their resilience and determination. The team, under Bob Obira’s leadership, showcased tactical discipline and clinical finishing, proving they are a force to be reckoned with.
This victory will undoubtedly boost their morale as they continue their campaign in the FUFA Big League and the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
