Mbale Heroes Football Club patron and Budadiri West MP, Hon. Nandala Mafabi, held a five-hour reconciliation meeting with club officials at Mountain Inn on Wednesday February 26, 2025, in an effort to stabilize the club amid internal divisions and management disputes.
The meeting was called following a series of disruptions that saw the team dismiss head coach Richard Malinga before rehiring Asaph Mwebaze to improve morale and performance.
However, Mwebaze’s tenure was short-lived, as he was suspended for 28 days over alleged indiscipline.
His contract was later terminated by mutual agreement on January 15, 2025.
The turbulence continued with the appointment of Baker Mbowa as the new head coach, a decision that wasn’t welcomed by some on the management committee further deepening divisions within the club’s management.
One of the key outcomes of the reconciliation meeting was Hon. Nandala Mafabi persuading vice chairman for football, Hajji Badru Chemsto (Bado), to resume his role in managing the team after he had unofficially stepped away.
Mafabi assured Chemsto of full support in steering the team through its relegation battle.
“I have secured five acres of land to build a permanent home for the club and cleared all players’ salary arrears and other financial issues,” Mafabi stated during the meeting.
Chemsto, in response, expressed willingness to continue working with the club but emphasized that every official must fulfill their responsibilities.
“I have no problem, but everyone should play their role at the club,” he said.
Mbale Heroes have endured a difficult start to their life back in the top flight sitting bottom of the log with only 9 points from 17 matches.
They host Police on Saturday 1st March at 4 PM.
