Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has candidly acknowledged his team’s underwhelming performances this season following co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s harsh critique of the squad.
Amorim, who succeeded Erik ten Hag, has inherited a team described as “disjointed” and struggling to adapt to his 3-4-3 system.
Ratcliffe, who has helmed football operations at Old Trafford for a turbulent year, recently highlighted the challenges stemming from decisions made before Amorim’s tenure, including costly acquisitions like Antony and Casemiro.
Despite the criticism, Ratcliffe reaffirmed the club’s reliance on key players such as Bruno Fernandes, whom he called “a fantastic footballer.”
Speaking ahead of Manchester United’s Europa League clash against Real Sociedad, Amorim displayed resilience.
“If we are being honest, in this moment, everybody—me, all the players—we are underperforming this season,” he said.
The tie, balanced at 1-1, represents a pivotal chance for Amorim’s side to turn their season around.
Amorim also expressed appreciation for Ratcliffe’s public support, emphasizing their straightforward relationship.
“To say it publicly is really good for the coach. But I continue to say the same thing—we need results, and we need to improve the team.”
With the stakes high and criticism mounting, all eyes remain on Amorim as he navigates his tenure at Manchester United.
