A team of 10 golfers is gearing up to represent Uganda at the upcoming Victoria Cup, scheduled for March 22-24 at Mt. Kapipiri golf course in Naivasha, Kenya.
Led by captain Joseph Cwinyaai, the Ugandan side aims to dethrone the defending champions and hosts, Kenya, in this prestigious match play format tournament.
Despite finishing level with Kenya at 11 points last year, Uganda was unable to claim victory as the rules favored Kenya retaining their 2023 title.
In a media briefing, National Council of Sports acting assistant general secretary Sarah Chelangat encouraged the team to deliver a strong performance. “Let’s continue to produce the results required of us and portray the citizenship of the country,” she said.
After weeks of intensive training, head coach Flavia Namakula expressed confidence in the team’s readiness.
Joining Cwinyaai in the roster are deputy captain Elon Thembo, Reagan Akena, Titus Okwong, Abdul Kakeeto, Abdallah Kakooza, John Musiimnta, Peter Mayende, Anthony Otukei, and Ibrahim Semakula.
Uganda’s golfers are determined to make their mark in Naivasha and bring the Victoria Cup title back home.
