Ugandan Striker Mukwala Stars as Simba Close Gap on Yanga

Uganda Cranes forward Steven Mukwala played a key role in Simba’s dominant 6-0 victory over Dodoma Jiji FC in the Mainland Premier League on Friday at KMC Complex in Dar es Salaam.

Mukwala’s well-taken goal early in the second half helped cement Simba’s control as they moved to within one point of league leaders Young Africans.

Mukwala was active from the start, nearly opening the scoring when his header from a David Kameta Duchu cross was saved by Dodoma Jiji goalkeeper Allan Ngereka.

The Ugandan striker continued to be a threat throughout the match, linking up well with his teammates despite missing an early opportunity in the first half.

Simba took control early, with Elie Mpanzu opening the scoring in the 15th minute before Jean Charles Ahoua netted twice to give the home side a comfortable 3-0 lead at halftime.

Mukwala then wasted no time in the second half, scoring Simba’s fourth goal just a minute after the restart, finishing off a precise cross from Mpanzu.

He nearly doubled his tally a minute later but failed to connect with another delivery from Mpanzu.

Mukwala remained instrumental in Simba’s attacking play, assisting Ahoua, who hit the crossbar, and keeping Dodoma Jiji’s defense under constant pressure. Kibu Denis later added two goals of his own to complete the emphatic win.

With this victory, Simba now sit second on the table with 57 points from 22 matches, just one point behind Young Africans.
