SC Villa Eye Redemption in Stanbic Uganda Cup Showdown

Nine-time Stanbic Uganda Cup champions SC Villa are gearing up for today’s critical Round of 16 clash against Lugazi at Najjembe, with hopes of turning their season around.

For Villa, the storied club that hasn’t lifted the Uganda Cup since its emphatic 3-0 triumph over KCCA in the 2015 replayed final at Namboole, this match is more than just progression—it’s about reigniting their legacy.

Lugazi, riding a wave of renewed confidence following a spirited resurgence in league form, promises to be no pushover.

Their newfound momentum could spell trouble for SC Villa, who will have to make do without key Uganda Cranes stars Ronald Ssekiganda and Patrick Kakande, both currently in Cairo preparing for the FIFA World Cup qualifier against Mozambique.

Coach Byekwaso will look to Charles Lwanga’s sharp instincts, Aslam Ssemakula’s creativity, and Reagan Mpande’s poise under pressure to navigate this tricky encounter.

The two sides last met at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, where Villa let a hard-fought lead slip in a tense 1-1 draw.

This time, the stakes are even higher, and Villa knows that anything less than victory will dash their hopes of ending the long Uganda Cup trophy drought.

In other fixtures, 2022 cup winners BUL will clash with the in-form Total FC, fresh off their upset win against Express FC.

Meanwhile, joint-record winners KCCA will host regional underdogs Rwenzori under the floodlights at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, at 7 PM—a match sure to test KCCA’s mettle and Rwenzori’s resolve.
