Dating back to 1971, the Uganda Cup stands as Uganda’s premier knockout football competition, boasting a rich history.

The inaugural title was claimed by Coffee United, who secured a 2-1 victory over Simba FC.

The tournament was established as a successor to the Kabaka Cup, which had been running since 1925.
Throughout its history, the Uganda Cup has undergone several transformations, including changes to its name.

In 1992 and 2010, it was renamed the Kankugulu Cup in honor of a former vice president of the Uganda Football Association (UFA).

Several teams have etched their names into the Uganda Cup’s history, with KCCA FC and Express FC emerging as the most successful clubs in the competition.

KCCA Titles:
1979, 1980, 1982, 1984, 1987, 1990, 1993, 2004, 2017, 2018

Express Titles:
1985, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1997, 2001, 2003, 2006, 2007

Other notable winners include SC Villa with 9 titles, while Vipers SC and URA have each secured the trophy three times.

In 2017, Stanbic Bank became the title sponsor, leading to the competition being officially named the Stanbic Uganda Cup, a title it retains today.

The tournament winner earns the prestigious opportunity to represent Uganda in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Last season, Kitara claimed this honor after a narrow 1-0 victory over NEC FC in the final.

As the Uganda Cup continues to evolve, it remains a vital part of Ugandan football, providing a platform for clubs to showcase their talent and compete for national glory.
