FUBA Unveil betPawa as New NBL Sponsor After Castle Lite Exit

The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has unveiled sports betting company betPawa as the new sponsor of the National Basketball League (NBL), landing financial backing for the upcoming season despite the recent withdrawal of Castle Lite.

The announcement comes after FUBA Vice President Hudson Ssegamwenge revealed that Castle Lite, which had signed a UGX 500 million sponsorship deal in May 2024, opted out due to internal company reasons.

The beer brand had been expected to renew its title sponsorship, but the federation was forced to find an alternative partner before the season’s tip-off on March 21.

betPawa’s sponsorship will not only provide financial stability but also introduce incentives aimed at motivating teams.

Each player and member of the technical staff will receive a locker room bonus of UGX 130,000 for every win throughout the regular season and playoffs.

Additionally, the league’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) in both the men’s and women’s divisions will be rewarded with UGX 4 million, while the championship-winning teams will receive UGX 5 million in cash prizes.

This new deal extends betPawa’s previous support for Uganda’s national basketball teams, where the company covers costs of team training, travel and accommodation to attend tournaments, medical insurance and supplements, among others.

Their continued investment underscores a commitment to growing the sport locally, particularly as the NBL looks to maintain momentum despite last season’s financial uncertainties.

Ssegamwenge had expressed confidence earlier in the week that a new sponsor would come on board, and betPawa’s involvement now ensures the league will proceed with crucial financial backing.

betPawa join Stanbic Bank, who have sponsored the league since 2023. This season will feature games being hosted at multiple venues, and the sponsorships come in handy.

With the new season set to tip off, players and teams will look forward to the added incentives as they compete for the NBL crown.
