Uganda Premier League leaders Vipers suffered their first loss since the opening day of the season, falling 1-0 to defending champions SC Villa at Wankulukuku on Saturday.
Charles Lwanga’s first-half strike secured all three points for the hosts.
The decisive goal came in the 42nd minute after a brilliant team play, with Uganda Cranes forward Patrick Kakande setting up Lwanga with a clever backheel pass, allowing him to slot home.
This defeat marks the first loss for Vipers since September 15, 2024, and the first under co-coaches John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda and Fred Muhumuza, who replaced Nikola Kavazovic.
With nine games left, Vipers remain top of the table with 49 points, just two ahead of NEC, who sit on 47.
The Venoms will look to bounce back when they host Lugazi on Thursday, April 3, while NEC travel to face UPDF the following day.
Meanwhile, SC Villa’s victory lifts them to seventh place with 30 points.
They will be on the road next, facing BUL on Friday, April 4.
