Ernest Akorebirungi: My Starting XVs from the Rugby Premiership’s Regular Season

With the conclusion of the regular season, the 2025 men’s Uganda Rugby Premiership has now entered the business end of its schedule. The top eight ranked teams will battle for the title while the bottom four will fight for survival.

Amidst all the excitement & boredom, the celebrations & misery and the highlights & lowlights, a great deal of amazing rugby was played by outstanding men.

This piece is a list of those players who would make a hypothetical Starting XV for a “team of the regular season,” if there were to be such a thing.

As usual, for all the lists and awards published under my byline, this is my team; comprising players who have not only been exceptional in my eyes but also left a happy feeling in my heart.

Here goes nothing…

1. Frank Kakula (KOBs)
2. Nathan Bwambale (Pirates)
3. Fahad Maido (Hippos)
4. Julius Opio (Hippos)
5. Simon Makumbi (KOBs)
6. Frank Kidega (Pirates)
7. Andrew Odhiambo (KOBs)
8. Michael Wokorach (Heathens)
9. Michael Stuart Mwayi (KOBs)
10. William Nkore (Pirates)
11. Shakim Ssembusi (Walukuba)
12. Thembo Jeremy Biyinzika (Rhinos)
13. Timothy Kisiga (Pirates)
14. Jeremiah Okello Ijala (Pirates)
15. Ivan Longa (Warriors)

I believe this team would prevail over any of the teams in the premiership and would fare competitively against other team lists of such a nature.
