Norwegian club Bryne FK has added a unique twist to the traditional “Man of the Match” award by presenting trays of eggs to their standout players, reflecting the club’s deep ties to local agriculture.
In their season-opening fixture in Norway’s top division, goalkeeper Jan de Boer received the unusual prize after a heroic display against Europa League quarter-finalists Bodo/Glimt.
Despite Bryne suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat, De Boer impressed with a string of fine saves, including a second-half penalty stop, keeping his team competitive throughout the match.
His reward—four trays of eggs—acknowledges the club’s roots in a farming community known for meat and dairy production.
Bryne FK, located near Stavanger and famously the starting point of Erling Haaland’s career, embraces its agricultural heritage with chants like “We are farmers and we are proud of it,” and even offers “VIP” tractor-side seating for matches.
However, Bryne players shouldn’t count on eggs every week. For their next game against Kristiansund on April 6, the club plans to honor the Man of the Match with cartons of local milk.
