RB Leipzig has parted ways with head coach Marco Rose following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga.
Rose, 48, exits after two and a half years in charge, with Leipzig currently sitting sixth in the league table.
Zsolt Low, who has previously served as assistant manager under Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain, steps in as interim coach until the end of the season.
Low’s primary task will be to revive Leipzig’s form, as the team has only won three of their last 11 Bundesliga matches but remains just three points shy of a Champions League qualification spot with seven games remaining.
Leipzig also faces a crucial German Cup semi-final clash against Stuttgart on Wednesday, adding further pressure to their turbulent campaign.
Managing director Marcel Schafer explained the decision to make a change, stating, “Given the development and the continued lack of results, we are firmly convinced that we need new impetus for the remainder of the campaign in order to achieve our aims for the season.”
Meanwhile, former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who works for the Red Bull group as head of global soccer, has dismissed speculation about his involvement with Leipzig, reiterating in January, “I will not be the coach of a Red Bull team.”
