The 2025 Eid Cup concluded in thrilling fashion at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, as Hajji’s team clinched a 1-0 victory over Dr. Ssemundu’s team to claim the prestigious championship title.
The one-day gala tournament, featuring ten teams, showcased intense competition and the power of sports to unite communities.
The final match was a nail-biter, with both sides demonstrating exceptional teamwork and strategy. A decisive, well-placed goal sealed the win for Hajji’s team, sparking jubilation among their supporters.
The event was graced by His Excellency Mourad Amokarane, the Ambassador of Algeria to Uganda, who praised the tournament for fostering unity.
“Sports have a unique way of bringing people together, and this tournament is a perfect example of the unity we need in our communities,” he said.
Organizers Dr. Rashid Yahya Ssemundu and Hajji Karim Kariisa celebrated the success of the second edition of the IDD Cup, expressing their ambition to make the tournament an annual highlight.
“We plan to make it bigger and better every year, encouraging more teams to join and experience the spirit of competition and community,” said Dr. Ssemundu.
Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, from the office of the NRM Chairman, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the role of sports in promoting physical fitness and strengthening social bonds.
“We urge more people to engage in such sporting activities. Not only do they promote fitness, but they also strengthen community cohesion,” she stated.
