Barcelona’s financial challenges have once again come under the spotlight as La Liga claims the club lacks the capacity to register forwards Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.
The controversy stems from temporary licenses granted last summer, which were revoked in January after Barcelona failed to meet financial compliance deadlines.
Spain’s sports council (CSD) intervened, allowing the players to be temporarily reinstated pending a definitive ruling expected by April 7.
However, La Liga has raised concerns over Barcelona’s financial maneuvering, particularly a €100 million VIP box deal announced in January.
The league alleges the transaction was not properly recorded in the club’s accounts for the 2024-25 season and has reported the auditor involved to the Accounting and Auditing Institute.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has dismissed La Liga’s claims as an attempt to tarnish the club’s reputation, asserting that the registrations were carried out in accordance with all requirements.
Laporta vowed to respond “as forcefully as necessary” while questioning the timing of the allegations, which coincide with Barcelona’s Copa del Rey semi-final against Atletico Madrid.
Olmo, who joined Barcelona from RB Leipzig in a £52 million deal, has made 28 appearances this season, while academy product Victor has featured 22 times. Both players remain integral to Barcelona’s campaign as they lead La Liga and prepare for the Champions League quarter-finals.
