Spain’s National Sports Council (CSD) has ruled that Dani Olmo and Pau Victor are eligible to play for Barcelona for the remainder of the season, despite objections from La Liga over the club’s financial compliance.
The controversy began last summer when La Liga granted Barcelona temporary licenses to register Olmo and Victor, only to revoke them later, citing the club’s failure to meet financial regulations by the December 31 deadline.
Following an appeal in January, the CSD allowed Barcelona to reinstate the players temporarily, and now the council has annulled the agreement between La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), ensuring the players’ registrations remain valid.
La Liga has expressed its intent to appeal the decision, maintaining that Barcelona lacks the financial capacity to register the forwards. The league lowered Barcelona’s wage cap after identifying irregularities in the club’s end-of-year accounting for the 2024-25 season.
Barcelona had announced a €100m (£83m) deal to sell VIP boxes at the Nou Camp to comply with Financial Fair Play rules, but La Liga claims the transaction was not properly recorded in the club’s accounts.
Dani Olmo, who returned to Barcelona last summer in a £52m deal after stints with Dinamo Zagreb and RB Leipzig, has featured 28 times this season, including 13 appearances since the CSD’s ruling.
Pau Victor, a product of Barcelona’s La Masia academy, has played 22 matches this term, with five appearances since the ruling.
