Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi is reportedly facing unrest within his squad, as tensions escalate following a string of poor results.
The team, which includes former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood, has lost four of its last five Ligue 1 fixtures, sparking dissatisfaction among players regarding the Italian coach’s authoritarian methods.
De Zerbi’s leadership style has come under scrutiny, with reports from L’Equipe suggesting that players have begun openly questioning his approach.
Greenwood, who boasts 15 goals this season, has seen limited playing time recently due to concerns over his attitude, further fueling frustrations within the squad.
The situation came to a head following Marseille’s 3-1 loss at Reims, after which De Zerbi reportedly refused to conduct training.
In a defiant response, players allegedly refused to train themselves, highlighting the growing rift between the squad and their manager.
Adding to the drama, Marseille’s director of football Mehdi Benatia has stepped in to mediate, urging players to justify their lucrative contracts by adhering to professional standards.
Benatia emphasized that such internal discord would be deemed unacceptable by his former clubs, Bayern Munich and Juventus.
With rest days cancelled and players ordered to spend the night at the training center, the atmosphere remains tense as Marseille prepares for their next Ligue 1 match against Toulouse on April 6.
