Osasuna’s attempt to challenge the eligibility of Barcelona defender Inigo Martinez to play against them has been dismissed by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
The appeal was launched after Barcelona’s 3-0 victory on 27 March, a match that had been rescheduled following the death of the club’s doctor, Carles Minarro Garcia.
Martinez, who missed Spain’s recent international break due to a knee injury, came under scrutiny for playing in the match.
FIFA regulations prohibit players from featuring for their clubs within five days of skipping national duty unless granted permission by their national FA.
The game took place just a day after the international window closed and four days after Spain’s Nations League fixture against the Netherlands.
Osasuna argued that Martinez’s involvement violated FIFA rules, but the RFEF’s competition committee ruled that Barcelona had followed all required protocols correctly.
In response, Osasuna announced plans to file a second appeal with the RFEF’s appeal committee.
Barcelona currently sits four points clear at the top of La Liga, while Osasuna remains in 13th position.
