Jackson Magera’s second stint as interim head coach of KCCA got off to a disappointing start as the Kasasiro Boys suffered a 2-1 home defeat to BUL in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Saturday evening.
First-half and second-half goals from Jeromy Kirya and Karim Ndugwa handed BUL a deserved victory, as they tightened their grip on third place in the standings.
Ashraf Mugume’s late consolation deep into stoppage time proved too little, too late for the hosts, who now remain sixth with 34 points after 23 games.
Kirya opened the scoring in the 29th minute, finishing off a well-constructed move that carved open the KCCA backline.
The visitors remained composed and disciplined throughout the first half, frustrating a KCCA side still adjusting to life after the departure of Abdallah Mubiru.
The second half saw BUL continue to control proceedings, and they were rewarded in the 84th minute when substitute Karim Ndugwa doubled the advantage, nodding home from close range after a defensive lapse.
KCCA found a spark late in the game, and Mugume pulled one back in the 94th minute after a sustained period of pressure. However, the goal arrived too late to spark a comeback.
The loss extends KCCA’s winless run against BUL to five matches, including three defeats. The Jinja-based side now sit in third place with 42 points from 23 matches.
KCCA, meanwhile, will need a swift turnaround in form as they look to salvage a respectable finish to an inconsistent campaign.
