Vipers coach Fred Muhumuza believes that winning against their immediate competitors gives them an advantage in the title race.
Goals from defender Hilary Mukundane, in-form playmaker Allan Okello and Isaac Ogwang handed Vipers a 3-1 win over NEC FC on Thursday night at the St Mary’s stadium, Kitende.
Paul Mucureezi scored against his former side, but his late goal only turned out to be NEC’s consolation on a disappointing night.
“I think when you win against your immediate opponents, it gives you an advantage but we cannot take that lightly. We still have six games to go, three at home and three away. So it is going to be difficult, and yet our competitor is not competing in the Uganda Cup any more. We have to work more,” noted Muhumuza.

“We showed huge character and mental attitude against NEC to recover from the lapse against Express FC,” he added.
Vipers lead the table standings with 56 points after 24 games while NEC stay second with 51 points.
The Venoms return to action on Monday as they host SC Villa in the Uganda Cup quarterfinals.
