Uganda will make a long-awaited return to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals this year in Morocco, marking its comeback after missing the previous two editions of the tournament.
This comes as preparations for the 2025 finals, set to run from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, continue to advance on schedule across the North African nation.
A high-level strategic meeting held on Thursday at Morocco’s Ministry of Interior confirmed that over 120 construction and renovation projects are currently underway across six host cities.
Discussions focused on the ongoing construction and rehabilitation works in Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, Fez, Marrakech, and Agadir.
Officials reported that all projects remain on track and are expected to be completed by December ahead of the tournament’s opening match.
In addition to stadium upgrades, Morocco is implementing wide-ranging urban development initiatives aimed at improving access, mobility, and the general aesthetics of the areas surrounding the match venues.
These include road works, better signage, enhanced lighting, expanded pedestrian zones, and the development of green public spaces.
Transport infrastructure is also receiving significant investment. Regional airports are being modernized to handle increased passenger traffic, and the ONCF is strengthening rail links between host cities to ensure smooth travel for fans and delegations.
Beyond infrastructure, Morocco is planning a robust cultural program to accompany the tournament. Host cities will feature street performances, concerts, exhibitions, and other artistic events intended to celebrate local culture and offer visitors a festive and immersive experience.
