Uganda’s representatives at the 2025 CAF Africa Schools Football Championship, St Noa Girls School and St Mary’s Kitende, have both secured places in the semi-finals after impressive performances in their respective categories.
St Noa Girls School maintained a flawless record in the group stage, topping Group B with nine points and seven goals.
They opened their campaign with a crucial 1-0 victory over defending champions South Africa, thanks to a quick goal from substitute Grace Kawiino, who scored just 37 seconds after coming on.
The team then defeated The Gambia 3-0, with a brace from Lilian Nabukera and another goal from Kawiino.
In their final group match, they overpowered DR Congo 3-0 with goals from Brenda Nasaka, Lydia Namaseruka, and Kawiino once again—who has now scored in all three group games. Despite starting from the bench in each match, Kawiino leads the team’s scoring charts with three goals.
St Noa will face Morocco in the semi-finals at 6:15 PM EAT, a repeat of last year’s semifinal clash where Morocco edged out Uganda’s Kawempe 1-0.
Meanwhile, in the boys’ category, St Mary’s Kitende bounced back from an opening 2-0 defeat to hosts Ghana with two crucial wins to advance from Group A.
They beat Algeria with goals from Kajumba Nabiru, Muhoozi Henry, Kulata Livingstone, and Kabenge Pius. In their final group match, Kitende secured a 4-1 win over South Africa, courtesy of goals from Muhoozi, Kajumba, Ashraf Kyakuwa, and Yasin Nsubuga.
Kitende finished second in Group A with six points, behind Ghana who won all their games. The result marks the school’s first-ever qualification for the semi-finals after failing to progress past the group stage in the previous edition.
Kitende will now face Senegal at 5:00 PM EAT at the University of Ghana Stadium. This is the second time the two sides meet after a goalless draw last year in the group stages.
“We thank the boys for the attitude and character exhibited today,” said Kitende Head Coach Hassan Zungu. “Winning today’s games was not easy but the boys knew what we wanted, and they delivered. We shift focus to the semi-finals.”
