Wrexham clinched a historic promotion to the Championship for the first time in 43 years with a dominant 3-0 victory over Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
Ollie Rathbone’s opener and a brace from Sam Smith sealed the win, sparking wild celebrations at the STōK Cae Ras.
The result, coupled with Wycombe’s earlier loss, guaranteed Wrexham the League One runner-up spot.
Despite pre-match “circus” comments from Charlton boss Nathan Jones, Wrexham delivered a commanding performance in front of co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
Smith’s first-half volley doubled Wrexham’s lead after Rathbone’s strike, and his late header completed the scoring.
Charlton now head to the play-offs, while Wrexham celebrate a remarkable third consecutive promotion after being in non-league just two seasons ago.
