Can Kitara Shock Vipers Again? Uganda Cup Semifinals Serve Up Thrillers

The 2024/25 Stanbic Uganda Cup semifinals are set, and they promise drama, tension, and stories of triumph or heartbreak.

Defending champions Kitara have been handed arguably the toughest assignment, drawn against a rampant Vipers SC side that is chasing a historic domestic double.

It’s a clash of titans versus kings in waiting — with Kitara keen to prove that last season’s success was no fluke.

It’s worth noting that to reach the semifinals of last year, Kitara eliminated Vipers in the quarterfinals.

Kitara’s road to the semifinals hasn’t been smooth.

Under the tactical stewardship of Wasswa Bbosa, they edged out BUL FC by a narrow 1-0 margin, thanks to a moment of brilliance from Arthur Kiggundu, whose pinpoint freekick sent the Royals Park faithful into a frenzy.

Now, they must raise their game even higher to silence the Venoms.

Vipers, meanwhile, have been ruthless. Milton Karisa, their inspirational captain, fired them past a stubborn SC Villa side with a poacher’s finish.

Sitting at the summit of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, Vipers’ eyes are firmly set on a prestigious double — and their hunger for silverware will make them a dangerous opponent for anyone.

In the other semifinal, record winners KCCA find themselves facing a fairytale. KCCA will face Big League outfit Kataka in what many consider a David versus Goliath battle.

The Kasasiro Boys progressed to the semifinals after overcoming a spirited Kaaro Karungi side with a hard-earned 2-1 win.

Kataka, however, have been the story of the tournament. The Mbale-based side stunned Uganda Premier League side Police, winning 3-0 on penalties after a dramatic shootout where all three Police penalties crashed off the woodwork.

KCCA and Vipers will host the first legs in the two-legged semifinals.

The first legs are scheduled for May 3rd and 4th, while the decisive second legs will be played on May 17th and 18th.

With heavyweights eyeing silverware and underdogs chasing history, the 2024/25 Uganda Cup semifinals promise fireworks.
