The 2025 Pearl of Africa Rally Championship will take center stage from May 9 to 11, drawing top rally talent to Uganda with over 53 entries, including eight foreign drivers from four countries.
The event marks the return of reigning African rally champion Karan Patel, adding weight to an already competitive field.
Organized under the auspices of the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU), the rally is set to unfold in the Ankole region, a strategic move by organizers to merge motorsport with tourism promotion.
For the first time, rally stages will run through the scenic Lake Mburo National Park, highlighting Uganda’s natural attractions in a bid to draw both tourists and investors.
FMU General Secretary Reynold Kibira confirmed to NBS Sport that preparations are 90 percent complete.
“As for the stages, everything is set, and Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) officials will begin arriving today, including the Safety Delegate and the Chairman of the Stewards,” Kibira noted.
On the competitive front, Uganda’s own Yasin Nasser is expected to challenge for top honors with his trademark aggressive style.
He will be joined by national rally icon Ponsiano Rwakataka and veteran driver Nasser Mutebi, who won the championship in 2010 and has declared himself “more than ready” for the challenge ahead.
