FUFA Unveils New Big League Trophy Ahead of Season Finale

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has unveiled the new FUFA Big League trophy, ahead of the league’s final round of fixtures set for Saturday, June 21.

According to FUFA, the new trophy has been crafted with a deep sense of symbolism and identity, and is inspired by Uganda’s natural heritage and the fierce competitiveness of the league.

The trophy draws its design from the African buffalo; a wild animal renowned for its tenacity, power, and unity.

The buffalo’s attributes are meant to reflect the values of the FUFA Big League and the teams that compete in it.

Its most distinctive features are the handles, shaped like buffalo horns, which represent strength, defence, and unity.

The central trunk connects the top bulb to the four-tier base, with each part of the design paying homage to specific buffalo features.

FUFA Communications Director Ahmed Hussein described the trophy as a true embodiment of the league’s spirit.

He noted that the design not only signifies perseverance and competition but also serves as a metaphor for the strength and unity shown by clubs fighting for success in the Big League.

The unveiling comes at a critical juncture in the FUFA Big League season, with the race for promotion to the Uganda Premier League wide open following a thrilling round of Match Day 29 fixtures.

League leaders Calvary were held to a goalless draw away to Onduparaka, while second-placed Buhimba United Saints suffered a shock 4-3 home defeat to Kigezi HomeBoyz.

The results mean that both teams are now tied at 49 points, but Calvary holds the top spot due to the away goals rule in head-to-head encounters with Buhimba.

With one game to go, the stakes could not be higher. Buhimba still enjoy a favourable record over third-placed sides such as Blacks Power and Paidha Black Angels, offering them alternative paths to promotion.

However, any slip-up on the final day could prove costly. The race is further complicated by strong showings from other contenders.

Three promotion slots are up for grabs, while four teams will face the drop. The intensity and unpredictability of this year’s league have made it one of the most engaging campaigns in recent memory.
